Course Description Performance Improvement: Principles & Practices is the premier learning event for those ready to acquire the performance consulting mindset so critical in today’s business climate. Guided by instructors/facilitators, participants are immediately engaged in a learning experience that models the very techniques it presents. Workplace examples and collaborative analyses of case studies pull participants into active problem solving, as they learn the foundations of performance improvement. The program demonstrates proven tools and techniques in use in the performance improvement arena today. Participants will apply the skills of performance consulting and the techniques introduced in this workshop to diagnose performance improvement opportunities and prescribe strategies and tactics to address them. Anyone charged with improving performance in the workplace, including training managers, instructional designers, performance analysts, and other experienced practitioners who want to work with leaders in the field to improve their knowledge about and skill in using human performance technology. Who Belongs to ISPI? Performance technologists, training directors, human resource managers, instructional technologists, human factors practitioners, and organizational consultants are members of ISPI. The Faculty Dr. Roger Addison, CPT, and Director of Human Performance Technology, ISPI. Roger is an ISPI Past-President and Honorary Life Member as well as a highly regarded faculty member in the ISPI Transitions from Training to Performance Institute, and frequent presenter and workshop leader. John Amarant, CPT, specializes in organizational alignment and has worked extensively with the implementation of large scale changes associated with the introduction of new strategies and changes typically associated with the adoption of new technology. Dr. Roger Chevalier, CPT, ISPI Director of Information and Certification. Roger has over 25 years of performance improvement experience. His past roles include having been a vice president of Century 21 Real Estate Corporation's Performance Division and a director of training for the U.S. Coast Guard's west coast training center. Carol Haig, CPT, Principal, Carol Haig & Associates and past ISPI Board member. Carol helps organizations improve performance with solutions that align the work, the worker and the workplace to improve results. She has worked in a variety of industries for more than 25 years. Jan-Peter Kastelein, CPT, MA. Jan-Peter is partner and managing director of Pioneer Spirit (Europe) B.V., a provider of training, consulting and digital workplace solutions for distributed business environments. He lives in Holland. Jan-Peter holds an MA in Organisational Psychology and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Twente. Lynn Kearny, CPT and past ISPI Board member, founder of Human Performance Management. Human Performance Management is a firm specializing in performance improvement. Lynn is an ISPI encore presenter and graphic recorder, and author of Designing Workplaces Where People Can Think. Dr. Miki Lane, CPT, past Board Member of ISPI, recipient of ISPI's Distinguished Service Award and two Awards of Excellence, Adjunct Professor, McGill University and Senior Partner of MVM Communications, has been helping organizations improve their workplace performance for over twenty five years. Monique Mueller, CPT, MBA. Monique is founder and director of la volta consulting, a company specializing in performance improvement and international communication. Monique lives in Switzerland. She holds a degree from the School of Interpreting, Zurich and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. Mark Munley, CPT, is a member of the Performance Design Lab, a consulting, training and research organization. He brings management and consulting experience to the analysis, design and implementation of organization performance systems. Mark's experience includes: Sr. Manager of Organizational Design, Management Development and Training for Automatic Data Processing and Assistant Vice President, Performance Consulting, Wells Fargo Bank. Belia Nel, CPT and founder member of Leaders of Learners, a company specializing in developing performance consultants and providing a performance improvement consulting service. This is achieved through aligning the workplace, worker and work. Belia is also the president of the ISPI Chapter in South Africa. Dr. Kenneth H. Silber, CPT is Associate Professor of Educational Technology, Research and Assessment at Northern Illinois University. He has specialized for 35 years in analysis, performance improvement interventions and evaluation. He was a Master Series speaker at ISPI and co-leads the "Business Glasses" Workshop. He is also co-author of Writing Training Materials That Work (2003) Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer. Dr. Donald T. Tosti, CPT is founding partner and managing director of Vanguard Consulting specializing in organizational alignment and has worked extensively with the implementation of large scale changes associated with the introduction of new strategies. Don is the President-Elect of ISPI and Honorary Life Member. Klaus Wittkuhn, CPT, MA. Klaus is founding partner and managing director of train Ltd., a consulting and training company specializing in the design of performance systems. He lives in Germany. Klaus teaches at two Universities and has published widely on different topics related to performance improvement, including the first German book on HPT, Improving Performance.

Cancellation and Substitution Policy All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing and received by ISPI no later than 14 calendar days before the scheduled institute. A refund (minus a $50 cancellation fee) will be given for cancellations received by this date. No refunds will be given for cancellations received on or after the 14 calendar days deadline. Telephone cancellations will not be accepted. Please notify the ISPI of any substitutions in writing 14 calendar days before scheduled institute. The appropriate rate will be applied to the substitute attendee.

If you are a self-directed and accomplishment-oriented person, Online ISPI Institute courses are for you! You can access the course materials 24 hours a day, seven days a week during an Online Institute course. What instructional methods are used in the Online ISPI Institute? Online ISPI Institute courses are designed to provide maximum freedom in accomplishing course activities. You will accomplish Online ISPI Institute courses using a combination of reflective readings, self-directed and self-assessed activities and open-ended discussion of course content with peers and instructor(s). You do not need to 'log on' at any special time. You will complete activities and discuss your conclusions with peers and instructor(s) asynchronously - you log in and complete activities, post comments and responses to your peers and instructors whenever it's convenient for you. The next time they log in, they'll see your comments and can respond to you. Later, when you log in again, you'll see their comments. You set your daily schedule - asynchronous instruction gives you the freedom to work on the course when it's convenient, while still accomplishing everything else in your busy day. How are materials delivered to me? All online ISPI Institute courses will provide Internet-accessible online course materials and a set of job aids to assist you in using the online courseware tools (you can print them locally if you prefer reading from paper copies). No special file readers, plug-ins, players or add-on software are necessary! After you register you will receive an email message containing directions for accessing the Online ISPI Institute course, and your username and password. This email message will also provide directions for downloading and printing the Job Aids you'll need to help you use the Online ISPI Institute courseware. What if I have technical problems during the course? Job aids will be your first line of defense in solving technical problems. In addition, Online ISPI Institute students will be provided with a toll-free number (in the continental US) or toll-number (outside the continental US) to access technical support for the courseware system, 8:00AM - 4:00PM Mountain time. Technical problems associated with Internet access or your computer hardware should be referred to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or a computer technician. What Do I Need in Order to
Succeed Time requirements You should plan to spend 6- 8 hours per week, for the three weeks of the Online ISPI Institute (a total of 18-24 hours). This is analogous to a three-day onsite workshop. Technical and skill requirements In order to take an online ISPI Institute course, students must own or have convenient access (a minimum of 2 hours per day, 4 days per week) to a complete computer system. Your computer can be a Pentium PC running Windows 95 or newer, or a Macintosh running System 7.5 or newer; at least 32 MB RAM; a 28.8 baud or faster modem, or a network connection; and a modern WWW browser (see below).
