Poor training is easy to spot…too much content, too little interaction, activities that have no purpose.

The learning and talent development field is embracing the idea that for learning to successfully transfer to value-added performance on the job, it must often be designed as a “ journey .

Gone, for the most part, are the days where training is a single event and stakeholders hope for some sort of ROI. However, crafting and executing high performance learning journeys (HPLJs) is much more than simply breaking up a single event, such as a multi-day workshop into bits and pieces of learning, and implementing them over time. High performance learning journeys are typically stretched over five dimensions (Time, Space, Relationships, Tools/Structure, and Business Linkage) in very intentional ways.

In this session, we will explore these five dimensions closely and identify specific strategies for stretching them.

Speaker Bio

As an independent consultant, Anne Apking has invested 35 years working with clients to create and implement broad-based performance improvement and learning solutions.

Anne’s clients include General Motors, Steelcase Inc. and The Dow Chemical Company, among many others. Anne co-authored High Impact Learning with Rob Brinkerhoff in 2001, and released a new publication in May 2019, Driving Performance Through Learning: A Practical Guide to Designing High Performance Learning Journeys , with Rob Brinkerhoff and Edward Boon.
