Awarded for: Through data analysis and performance improvement, we increased the sales of our top stores by 30.7% from May to August 2024. We achieved this by adding new stores to our portfolio, and increasing the cooperation rate of our existing top 100 stores from 90% to 99%.

Project Name: Tripling new product GMV to 4.5 million in adult milk powder industry

Awarded for: Yashili International's sales department was tasked with increasing the GMV of new adult milk products from CNY 1.5 million to CNY 4.5 million within three months via e-commerce channels and social media. The target audience was middle-aged and elderly people on Douyin (Tiktok). The project exceeded its goal by 200%, achieved an annual revenue of tens of millions, developed a promotional methodology, and established standard operating procedures.

Project Name: Improving Sales of Mengniu Youyi C Brand in Meiyijia Retailing Chain

Awarded for: Mengniu is aiming to increase sales of its Youyi C brand in Guangdong province over eight months, with a view to reversing a three-year sales decline. The brand aims to grow sales of its medium and small bottles, as well as increase its presence in the O2O channel. The campaign will run from May to December.

Project Name: Fentanyl Detection Canine Course

Awarded for: The Field Operations Academy trains Customs and Border Protection Officers to protect the American public against terrorists and the instruments of terror. Recent years have seen efforts to improve the training with a focus on sophisticated communication and critical thinking skills, as well as a shift from a warrior mindset to a humanitarian perspective. This shift enhances the mental health of graduates and improves interactions with the general public.

Project Name: Enhancing the Field Operations Academy

Awarded for: The Field Operations Academy trains Customs and Border Protection Officers to protect the American public against terrorists and the instruments of terror. Project Name: HALO Mission Integrating Location and Biometrics for Optimal Performance

Awarded for: The record-breaking Alpha 5 HALO mission, which saw a team of military veterans jump 34,000 feet while being monitored by wearable tech, has been held up as an example of the role of real-time data in optimising human performance. The mission, which was supported by GPS and AI, integrated several innovative wearable devices to monitor the jumpers' location and biometrics. The real-time data was then used by a support team to ensure the jumpers' safety and performance were optimised.

Project Name: Streamlining and Harmonizing Quality Training through Effective Governance

Awarded for: Sanofi has streamlined its organisational structure in a bid to focus on becoming "One Sanofi", and as part of this process it has developed a governance model for quality training as it looks to streamline and harmonise such training across the company. The model gives direction, processes and tools to develop a global quality library.


Recipient: State Grid Corporation of China Senior Management Training Center

Project Name: Developing Talent to Realize Green Chain Business Targets

Awarded for: State Grid Corporation of China's Senior Management Training Center has developed a comprehensive talent development system for its Green Chain initiative, aimed at creating an environmentally sustainable supply chain. The project, which includes 22 curricula and 37 training programs, has so far engaged 68,499 participants and achieved savings of $5.49bn, exceeding its target.

Project Name: Gulf Coast ISPI Improvement Project

Awarded for: A project is detailed that used performance improvement techniques to revive an atrophying professional organization, ultimately growing its membership nearly-fold in a month and establishing a model for similar revitalization efforts.

Awarded for: The US Coast Guard has launched a new course to help previously ineligible recruits overcome dietary and fitness challenges and enlist. The Future Sentinel preparatory course was launched to address a four-year shortfall in the number of recruits.

Project Name: Tactical Coxswain Course - Advanced

Awarded for: The USCG has 11 missions, with Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS) being the first homeland security mission. After a Training Requirement Analysis (TRA) for the Boat Forces Tactical Mission in 2012, it was decided that the best course of action would be to modify the existing TCC course at SMTC based on performance task deficits.

Awarded for: A Structured-On-The-Job training course has been developed by the US Coast Guard's Training Center Petaluma's Performance Systems Division for a mid-level culinary specialist position. The course, which has achieved 100% skill transfer to date, has been designed to incrementally teach 28 key skills through a combination of e-learning modules, simulations and on-the-job assessments. The training approach is estimated to have delivered cost savings of over $1m.

Dissertation Title: Exploration of Salesperson Competencies for Customer Engagement in Retail

Awarded for: A US study has identified key competencies required for retail sales staff to engage effectively with customers in the home improvement sector, which could help retail companies with training and recruitment strategies.


Recipient: T. Lynne MacBain, EdD

Dissertation Title: Revitalizing a Professional Organization Chapter

Awarded for: This dissertation examines the performance gaps which led to the Gulf Coast chapter of the International Society for Performance Improvement failing to achieve its mission, and offers intervention recommendations to address these gaps. It contributes to the performance improvement field by demonstrating the potential of performance improvement techniques to address complex organisational issues, and offers insights into the challenges faced by professional organisation chapters generally.




2025 Outstanding Research Award


Recipient: Cricia Bonilla de Perez, M.Ed

Project Name: Inquiry-Based Math Discussion Intervention

Awarded for: This study explored the impact of an inquiry-based math discussion intervention on eight second-grade students' math performance and engagement over four weeks. The intervention involved three weekly 30-minute sessions. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed. The findings offered valuable insights into the effectiveness of the intervention approach.


Recipient: Michelle Thuma

Project Name: Volunteer Onboarding Qualitative Applied Improvement Study

Awarded for: A volunteer onboarding framework was improved with an intervention including a questionnaire, a mapping process, and formal task and role descriptions. The study found that the intervention positively influenced the onboarding experience and perceived value of the volunteers, with positive trends in retention. The solution offered a sense of belonging and safe space for discussion.




2025 Thomas F. Gilbert Distinguished Professional Achievement Award


Recipient: Dr. William J. Rothwell

Awarded for his extensive contributions to the field of Human Performance Technology (HPT). His remarkable career encompasses authorship of foundational texts, creation of globally recognized competency models, and mentorship of emerging leaders, making him a distinguished candidate for this prestigious award.

Biography: William J. Rothwell, Ph.D., DBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, RODC, FLMI, CPTD Fellow, is President of Rothwell & Associates, Inc., Rothwell & Associates, LLC, and Rothwell & Associates Korea. As a consultant, William J. Rothwell has worked with over fifty multinational companies and countless governments and nonprofits. In the 20 years before he joined Penn State University 30 years ago, he had executive-level experience in government and in a multinational business. As a distinguished professor at Penn State, he heads up an online Master’s program in Organization Development and Change at Penn State and also teaches/advises Ph.D. students in Workforce Education and Development at Penn State. He has authored 168 books and given over 1,600 professional talks in 15 nations over 30 years. In addition to the three consulting companies he founded, he also founded three small businesses in State College, PA. He has conducted training on every continent except Antarctica.

Recipient: Mark Bowers

Awarded for: Mark Bowers has served ISPI in numerous roles for more than a decade and has developed a new system for managing the entire lifecycle of ISPI Awards, ISPI Chapter Awards, Annual Conference Proposals and other programs which has improved our efficiency and performance. He has served as Awards Committee Chair, Chapter Affiliation Committee Chair, and as president of his home chapter ISPI of Hampton Roads. His dedication to the organization is exemplified by his long-term commitment and willingness to take on various responsibilities.  His contributions have had a positive and lasting impact on both the chapters and the society.
